Tasting - Rodney Strong Rose of Pinot Noir

Image
Name: Rodney Strong Variety: Rose of Pinot Noir Region: Sonoma Coast Country: USA Year: 2021 Price: $18   Winery Review: 100% Pinot Rose’. 12.5% alcohol, high acidity, medium low tannins. Opens with strawberry, rose hip, and stone. Palette offers more strawberry, cranberry skin, salty minerals, crisp apple, honeydew melon rind, and rose water. Finish is long crisp and refreshing. Perfect on a hot day – (T.D 3.9). Wine Folly: pg 150: I could detect the mushroom earthy flavor mentioned in the book.   My Review: This wine is Tart, earthy, and flowery . Slightly dry, with a sweet and sour aftertaste. I would try this wine again.

Tasting - Giretto Pinat Grigio

Image
Name: Giretto Variety: Pinot Grigio Region: Delle Venezie Country: Italy Year: 2021 Price: $7.00   Winery Review: Lemon and Pear on the nose of this white wine from Italy. It is dry with light Citrus and Acidity. Flavors of Lemon, Pear, Green Apple and Melon. Good Value wine – (E.W 3.5).   Wine Folly: pg 149: The book talks of Pinot Grigio being acidic with a light body, and elements of peach, lemon zest, cantaloupe, raw almond, and crushed gravel. I found flavors of cantaloupe but was unable to detect any of the other flavors mentioned.   My Review: Quite dry, very acidic especially the after taste. The taste can only be described as grapey, like the skins of grapes. While I did not hate this wine, I would not try it again.

My Wine Experience

Image
My parents have always been casual wine drinkers. Often growing up there was a bottle of wine, usually a merlot, that was dragged out every once in a while for special occasions or whenever my parents felt like it. When these bottles were pulled down, perched on the top shelf of the cupboard, and poured into what can only be described as incredibly economically priced crystal wine glasses, my dad would normally let me and my siblings have a sip if asked. In this way, I have always had exposure to wine at an early age.  Once I was of age, I was interested in finding a wine type that I actually like to drink. In my relatively short time seriously tasting wine, I have found that, like most young people, I prefer sweet/dessert wines like sangria, but I also have found myself drawn to the richer flavor of reds compared to whites.  I tend to find when I find something I like, I do not want to expand my horizons. So I find myself not wanting to spend money on wine that is not

Title: Tasting - Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling

Image
Name: Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling Variety: 100% Riesling Region: Columbia Valley, Washington Country: USA Year: 2021 Price: $14 Winery review: Medium yellow color. White peach, mango, apple, minimal petroleum on the nose. Taste sweet, with a good balance of acid gives it a vibrant crisp mouth feel. Honey, ripe sweet citrus, apple, and  peach on the palate with a light fizz and a hint of mineral. Light body 7.5% alcohol, but with a nice  longer finish than expected. For those that enjoy a balanced sweet Riesling. R.L (6/1/2022) - 4.3 Wine Folly: I do not have the textbook yet and as such have no references on this wine. My review: This wine has a wonderfully honey apple crisp smell with hints of orange peel. This wine taste somehow then it smells, with a beautiful array of fruit flavors most notably peach, apple, with a biting tangerine flavor. This is an amazing sweet dessert wine that is my new favorite wine. I very much enjoyed this wine and will definitely be drinking  it again

Title: Tasting - La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

Image
Name: La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay Variety: 100% Chardonnay Region: Sonoma County, California Country: USA Year: 2021 Price: $18 Winery review:      When a rich, full-bodied Chardonnay is needed, this California classic never disappoints.  Notes of Meyer lemon and sweet spice on the nose, plus dairy/cream and toasted marshmallow on the palate. The 'crowd pleaser' that will pair with most anything on a holiday table. B.C (5/10/2022) - 90 Wine Folly: I do not have the textbook yet and as such have no references on this wine. My review:      Fantastically well balanced chardonnay, that does not feel the need to announce itself in a room. This wine has a light sweet fruity smell, but manages to be incredibly smooth and savory on the tongue. The after taste is divine, almost imperceptible, but buttery. I enjoyed this wine and would drink it again. I tasted this on its own with no food.
